Have you ever known a woman to suffer through menopause? Menopause related issues include early menopause, hot flashes, headaches, mood swings and depression and even low back pain.

Many women opt for estrogen replacement therapy, but risks of estrogen replacement therapy include breast cancer, heart disease and stroke.

Are there natural ways to help? What does this have to do with chiropractic? It has a lot to do with chiropractic because the nerves control the hormonal system. What does that mean? Keep watching.

Quiz time. The time leading up to menopause, during which menstrual and hormonal changes occur is called ?

Answer: Perimenopause. If estrogen levels quickly spike the entire hormonal system is thrown off balance.

Cool fact. The prefix peri in perimenopause is the Greek root that means around or near.

Returning now to our question; what does menopause have to do with chiropractic? Perimenopause can begin early. If the autoimmune condition causes the immune system to mistakenly attack the ovary.

Quiz time. The system of the body that controls the immune system is the:
A. Adrenal system
B. Nervous system
C. Endocrine system or
D. Respiratory System

The answer is B, nervous system. If the nerves are compromised the immune system may mistakenly attack the ovaries. The result, possibly, early perimenopause.

How do the nerves stay healthy? By making sure the spine is in alignment. The spine? Yep, nerves come from the spine. If the spine is out of alignment the nerves become compressed and cannot properly work.

It’s called a subluxation. A condition in which a spinal segment is out of alignment with the adjacent segment. Nerves, which branch off of the spinal cord, no longer properly work. No worries. Chiropractors’ specialty is to detect and remove spinal subluxation.

What about menopause related hormonal headaches? Headache relief is one of the most common results of chiropractic care. Aside from their relation to changing hormones, hot flashes may be related to changes in heart rate, a sign that the parasympathetic nerves are involved.

Wouldn’t Tylenol be easier? Medicine covers pain, like a bandage, so headaches will only return. On the other hand, removing pressure from the spine seeks to remove the cause.

What about hot flashes? Did you say nerves? Yep. No matter which way you turn the nerves are involved.

What about mood swings? The worse a woman feels physically, the greater her mood swings and this is understandable so. Possible reaction to hot flashes and of mood swings are yet more reasons to have spinal subluxations removed.

Do you have a friend or loved one who suffers through menopause? Ask your chiropractor for your copy of menopause information to pass along, so you loved one can finally find relief and live the life they imagine. You can help change someone’s life. What could feel better than that.

I don’t have hot flashes. I have short, private vacations in the tropics.
